On November 19, 2019, the Consortium hosted critically acclaimed author and activist Lacy M. Johnson for a reading, Q&A, and book signing.

Johnson read from her most recent collection, The Reckonings, which draws from philosophy, art, literature, mythology, anthropology, film, and other fields, as well as her own personal experience of sexual violence, to consider how our ideas about justice might be expanded beyond vengeance and retribution to include acts of compassion, patience, mercy, and grace.

Johnson sat down with University of Arizona MFA candidate Sarah Bates for an interview just before the event. Co-sponsors for the event included the Department of English and MFA Program.
